Upcycling, an uphill struggle with a long way to go

Upcycling was a suggestion for my laddered tights and this weekend I tried a couple of things.

Upcycle idea 1, garter.

I wore Via Spiga tights a couple of day ago and because they were woolly and I have the leg length of a ten year old they eventually gathered around my ankles into an attractive collection of wrinkles. Could I use a pair of old tights fasioned into a garter to hold them up? Well let’s have a go.

Tying the tights together to form a loop, I then folded them onto itself into a smaller loop that fitted round my thigh. I think the pair I used were a bit on the shorter side and as I slipped the “garter” on I quite quickly found the circulation around my thigh had stopped. I had fashioned myself an extremely efficient tourniquet. I lowered the “garter” to just above the knee so I could feel my leg again and to demonstrate the “garter effect”. It felt secure enough, if this worked then I may not ever experience wrinkled ankles again.

After a couple of hours they gradually dropped and my “garter” was sitting comfortable around my calf and the legwarmer look had returned.

Calf garter anyone?
Calf garter anyone?

Success? No, not really. For an hour it felt ok and held up quite well but I think I need longer tights to be able to fashion a garter big enough to, not stop my circulation and to fit round my thigh.
